Behind the Seamstresses
SARAH
Hi, I'm Sarah. I am a designer and seamstress who is passionate about bridal and fashion. As the daughter of a fashion designer/seamstress herself, I've been sewing as long as I can remember. I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where I earned my degree in fashion design. In New York, I worked in the fashion industry in bridal, couture and children's wear before moving back to Ohio to focus on my family. As a mother of three I am now able to work from my home which allows me to do what I love—designing custom wedding gowns and providing alterations services to the Cleveland area. Whatever it is you need, whether it is a dress made from scratch, restyling a vintage gown or resizing your dream dress, I'm here to help.
LISA
I have been drawing wedding gowns as long as I could remember. I loved sewing as a child and making my own clothes. As a teenager I began sewing for others. Then it was only natural that I graduated from Shannon Rogers and Jerry Silverman school of Fashion Design at Kent State University. Since then my years of experience include the Cleveland Playhouse as a pattern maker and costume maker for their shows; in-house premier designer for Cutting Room Fabrics specializing in custom made wedding gowns; and for the last 17 years I have worked for David’s Bridal as a alterations manager and corporate alterations trainer—one of 16 trainers in the world's largest chain of bridal retailers.
Along with being a fit expert, I love doing customizations to wedding gowns that make the gown one of a kind, whether it is adding modesty panels, sleeves, or something unique. I find joy in creating and sewing. I also specialize in bustles that are beautiful and compliment the design of the gown. I know how to implement many different bustle styles and combinations. The bustles I sew are strong and keep the train of the dress from dragging the ground all night long, making dancing a dream. My many years of experience have taught me how to not only make the bustle beautiful, but very easy for the bridesmaids to implement in under five minutes.
